This is technical documentation in one of its most vital roles. Good quality installation instructions demonstrate to a customer how well a Company rates its products and values its customer’s business. These instructions need to be well written, well illustrated, well laid out and technically correct. Any failure in these areas will undoubtedly lead to customer frustration and by association a negative initial view of both product and Company.

The technical illustrator needs to work closely with a ‘Content Expert’ and possibly a technical writer to create a successful piece, once achieved the document should have a longevity as long as the product has life. It is also important to update and revise these documents as the product evolves or if specific problems occur during its life span.
